Want to hear some good news? Cigarette smoking among teens has been dropping over the past few decades. In a recent survey, fewer than 10 percent of high school students reported smoking cigarettes in the past month, compared with more than 30 percent in 1997. The bad news? Teens who smoke are more likely to become addicted to nicotine, the drug in cigarettes, than people who start smoking when they’re older. Cigarettes aren’t the only products that contain nicotine. It’s found in vapes, cigars, and smokeless forms of tobacco known as dip or chew.
