Everything You Need to Know About Nicotine

Want to hear some good news? Cigarette smoking among teens has been dropping over the past few decades. In a recent survey, fewer than 10 percent of high school students reported smoking cigarettes in the past month, compared with more than 30 percent in 1997. The bad news? Teens who smoke are more likely to become addicted to nicotine, the drug in cigarettes, than people who start smoking when they’re older. Cigarettes aren’t the only products that contain nicotine. It’s found in vapes, cigars, and smokeless forms of tobacco known as dip or chew. Using any type of nicotine product can lead to serious health conditions, including gum decay, heart and lung problems, cancer, and even death. Here’s why you should avoid nicotine in all forms.

Teens who smoke cigarettes before the age of 15 are up to 80 TIMES more likely to use illegal drugs than teens who don’t.
