Life Hacks: Clean Against the Clock

THE PROBLEM

Your room is a total mess. But every time you start to clean, you get distracted. You start paging through an old yearbook, playing a video game, or just daydreaming. Now an hour has passed, and nothing is done!

THE HACK

Step One:

Pick your priorities. Which area (or areas) of the room—the floor, the closet, the dresser—are most in need of tidying? Choose one to focus on.

Step Two:

Set a timer for 5 to 10 minutes. You can use the clock app on a phone or tablet, an online timer, or a digital stopwatch.

Step Three:

Quick! Neaten up as much as you can before time is up. Take a break, then repeat the process in different parts of the room until the job is done.
