ESSENTIAL QUESTION

In what ways can I benefit from starting to prepare for adulthood now?

 CLOSE-READING QUESTIONS

  1. According to what you read, how is adulting like a muscle? Adulting is like a muscle because if you start exercising it now, you will be ready to handle the heavy lifting of adulthood when the time comes.
  2. List at least two things you should include in a thank-you note, according to the article. Accept any two: Open with a greeting; state your thanks for the gift or gesture; add a detail about how you’ll use it or what you love most about it; close by mentioning the next time you’ll see the person.
  3. Why is it important to know how to do a load of laundry correctly? Describe at least one reason mentioned in the article. Accept any of the following: Diarrhea-causing germs, like E-coli and salmonella, can live on dirty clothes for several weeks; sweat and oil from your body rub off onto clothes, making them stinky; you look and feel better when you’re wearing a clean, nice-smelling outfit.
  4. According to cleaning expert Rachel Hoffman, what is the trick to having a tidy living space? The trick to having a tidy living space is frequent, small bursts of tidying, as opposed to a marathon session when the clutter is so thick you can’t see the floor.

 CRITICAL-THINKING QUESTIONS

  1. Are you nervous about becoming an adult, or do you feel ready to be independent? Explain. Answers will vary.
