J.K. Rowling Did An Amazing Thing For This Harry Potter Fan
Ever since reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, we've all been waiting for that letter from Hogwarts to arrive. Unfortunately, it turns out most of us are muggles with no such luck. But one teen's Harry Potter dreams just came true! According to Buzzfeed, author J.K. Rowling sent a magical package to 15-year-old Cassidy Stay. Cassidy received a Hogwarts acceptance letter, a wand, a book autographed by Rowling, and most importantly, a handwritten letter in purple pen from Dumbledore.
Even though this gift from Rowling is incredible, the reason behind it is much more somber. Cassidy is the only survivor in a recent shooting in which she lost her parents and four siblings. She miraculously survived a gunshot wound to the head. In the wake of this unbelievable tragedy, Cassidy spoke in front of her community to thank them for their support. That's where Harry Potter comes into the picture. During her speech, she quoted Dumbledore: “Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”
This sparked a movement online where a Facebook page was created called "We want JK Rowling to meet Cassidy Stay." With nearly 7,500 likes, this page led to Rowling's letter. The Houston Chronicle wrote a story confirming Cassidy had indeed received these Harry Potter goodies from the author.
We're in awe of both Cassidy's strength and J.K. Rowling's generosity! Even the Internet has had an amazing response — over $400,00 has been raised for the Texas teen via GoFundMe.
Important note: In the wake of this terrible tragedy, we want everyone to remember there are resources available if you're worried that you or someone you know may hurt themselves or others. Don't hesitate to ask for help.
